2008 YOUNG GUNS RULES
CRAWFORD COUNTY SPEEDWAY
The
Following Rules are for the Young Guns division for the 2008 calendar year. Crawford
County Speedway Racing Officials may make at interpretation or Amendment to
these rules anytime.
The Rules &
Regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of
racing events only, and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for
successful events. No express or implied warranty of safety shall result from
publications of, or compliance with these rules, and/or regulations. They
are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport, and are in no way a
guarantee against injury or death to participants.
The Following
Rules for the 2008 Calendar year YOUNG GUNS are designed for new drivers who
want to get involved in racing in an inexpensive way.
· BODY: Any 2 or 4 doors Sedan, Station Wagon or
Pickup Truck. - No Convertibles - No Front Wheel Drive Vehicles. Body must be a Full Frame Car. No sub-frame
type or uni-body cars allowed. Must be a complete Stock Body & chassis.
American Made Cars only. NO Strut Front End Cars Allowed. 108 Minimum Wheel Base. Rear Suspension must
be coil spring type O.E.M. Cars only.
Nothing can be altered. OK to
cut front fenders for tire clearance. Cannot cut rear fender opening out. Must
be STOCK APPEARING.
· Stock O.E.M. Coil Springs Front & Rear. Springs
cannot be inner changed with heavier front springs or rear springs. Must Be
Stock O.E.M. For that make and Model.
· All Doors must be welded or bolted shut - (No Door
Skins) All glass & chrome must be removed - All upholstery & plastics
must be removed - Nothing left in body that could cause a fire hazard -
Complete bumper to bumper, must be retained. Stock floor pan - Stock Fire Walls - Stock Trunk - No
sectioning or channeling allowed.
· Seat &
Seat Belts: FIVE-Point safety
harness. Helmet - Snell 90 or SA 95 Rating or better recommended. All cars must
have an aluminum-racing seat & must be fastened to roll cage. Not bolted to
the floorboard. Driver must remain to the left of the driveline and in front.
Racing seat must be mounted so that when driver is fully buckled in place, the
back upper shoulder portion of his body must not extend past original front
door openings, rear edge. No factory type shoulder belts or straps can be used.
Metal to metal buckles are required on shoulder and seat belts are not be more
than one year old.
· Window Nets,
Neck Braces & Racing Fire Suit:
They Are Mandatory. You must have one to race.

Roll Cage - Must have a (4) point cage with X brace
behind driver. A minimum of (4) four door bars on driver's side. - You must
have a minimum of (3) three door bars on the passenger side - 1 & 1/2 inch
tubing or larger is required. Must have outside doorplate. Same as Modified
rule. (Build it Safe) All Roll bars within drivers reach must be padded with
padding acceptable to C.C.S. Officials.

No Bars can be
extended out of cars interior. NONE!!!
· Fire
Extinguishers - You Must Have one
mounted inside of racecar. Dry Type Only.
· FUEL CELLS: Optional but recommended. OK to install
gas tank inside of trunk area. Must be secured properly and rear panels sealed.
· FUEL:
Gasoline only - No Alcohol
· BATTERY: May be relocated inside of car. Must be
secured properly.

· ENGINES: No Headers - Stock OEM CAST IRON exhaust
manifolds only. Chevrolet, Mopar, Ford,
V/8 Motors - 350 cubic inch limit. Must be strictly stock Camshaft lift @ the lobe 278 with 1.5
rocker arms. Not to exceed .425 at the valve on intake/exhaust. This is basically a stock profile
camshaft. only. Hydraulic
camshaft only. Stock rocker
arms Stock O.E.M. distributor - 350 Chevrolet O.E.M. Block and crank and
O.E.M. Stock heads Cast iron heads only No racing machine work on
heads. (NONE) O.E.M. Stock screw in Studs. O.K. NO Vortec. NO Throttle body heads.
· No
power pack heads No double hump heads All heads must have factory mounting
holes in front of heads. All must have 4-bolt valve cover pattern on outside.
O.E.M. No bleed down lifters. O.E.M. ONLY FLAT TOP PISTONS ONLY.
· TRANSMISSIONS - No Standard Transmissions - Must have
Stock Automatic only. O.E.M. Torque converter. Coolers must be mounted in front
of radiator.
Steering Wheels:
Quick Release Steering Wheel. Steel Shaft. OK!
· WHEELS: Must be stock type only - 8 inch wide
Maximum. Tires must be DOT Street Legal only - No Grooving of tires.
· REAR END: Cannot lock rear ends. No Pos Trac or
Limited slip rear ends. Open spider gears & pin only.
· Weight Rule: 3000 lbs. Car and Driver following race
on C.C.S. Scales. No Add On weights

· FORD CARS Cannot have any Carburetors other than
a 2 Barrel Motor Craft bolted direct to O.E.M. Cast Iron Intake Manifold.
· GM Race Cars (1) One 2 Barrel O.E.M. &
Manifold or 1 Quadra jet 4 Barrel Carburetor ONLY. No Adapters - No Spacers.
· Race Car Numbers Must be readable from the scoring
tower. If we cant read it. You will not be scored for the night of racing.
Size needed 24 tall 3 stripe in width. Different color than racecar. No
duck taping.
The YOUNG GUNS cannot drive in any other division at C.C.S.
· This is a
beginner class
· Same Point System as C.C.S. other
Divisions. All Drivers must be a paid registered driver.
· Race 20 nights or have 500 points to
qualify for Awards
· AWARDS - There will be the same Point System and a
Champion in the YOUNG GUNS. Trophies & Top Ten Jackets & awards will be
given at the Drivers awards Banquet.
No point fund money for the Young Gun
Division.
· CAR PROTEST: $150 Protest Fee. Cash Only. Driver must
make protest only. $50 of protest fee will go to drivers point fund. Driver
must be a 2008 paid registered driver to make a protest, NO Motor Claim No
Car Claim
